500 employees across eight U.S. cities will package meals for the world’s hungry

More than 500 of MetLife employees across eight U.S. cities will team up with global nonprofit Stop Hunger Now to package meals for the world’s hungry on October 13 in recognition of World Food Day.

MetLife employees will package approximately 200,000 meals in each of these locations: Cary, NC; Greenville, SC; Scranton, PA; Warwick, RI; Denver, CO; Tampa, FL; Dayton and OH; Whippany, NJ. Stop Hunger Now meal packaging events are a volunteer-based program that coordinates the streamlined packaging of highly nutritious, dehydrated meals comprised of rice, soy, vegetables and 23 essential vitamins and minerals.

MetLife is orchestrating this nationwide event in recognition of the United Nation’s World Food Day on Oct 16.  Employees will join companies and organizations across the world to promote awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger. MetLife’s event is organized by iRise Rising Professionals – a MetLife group for young professionals, providing them with opportunities for personal and professional development. Sponsored by MetLife Foundation, this initiative demonstrates MetLife’s commitment to the global community.

“This event is an opportunity to raise awareness and encourage people to join the movement to end hunger,” says Kate Day, Vice President of Workforce Enablement at MetLife and Board Chair for Stop Hunger Now. ”I’m proud to work alongside our employees in their commitment to improving the lives of others around the world.”

World Food Day is celebrated every year around the world on October 16 in honor of the date of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1945. This year’s theme is “Climate is changing. Food and agriculture must too.” The lives of Stop Hunger Now beneficiaries are intimately connected to the environment. Stop Hunger Now strives to manage environmental resources in ways that enhance the potential for growth and opportunity for sustainable development of present and future generations.
