Residents in and around the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area now have a hands-on way to help end world hunger. In an effort to grow the movement to end hunger and engage more volunteers, Stop Hunger Now celebrated the opening of a new location with a ribbon-cutting and grand opening event on April 7 in the new Kearny, NJ warehouse.
This event marked the accomplishments of supporters, funders and meal packaging volunteers who have been packaging meals for Stop Hunger Now and helped support the opening of the new location. Corporate partners who have packaged meals with Stop Hunger Now include AIG, Sanofi and Viacom. Stop Hunger Now offers an effective entrepreneurial model in the fight against global hunger and is becoming a key provider in the Corporate Social Responsibility community.
Last year, Stop Hunger Now packaged about 1 million meals in the New York metropolitan area, and anticipates packaging 1.5 million meals and engaging 7,500 volunteers in its first year in the new location according to Steve Reiss, New York Program Manager.
Stop Hunger Now CEO Rod Brooks joined corporate and community guests at the grand opening event to talk about the importance of expanding Stop Hunger Now’s packaging operation to increase the number of meals packaged for those starving from lack of access to food.
“Expanding into the New York area allows us to grow the movement and have an even greater impact and engage more people in the fight against hunger,” said Rod Brooks, CEO of Stop Hunger Now. “We look forward to engaging more volunteers in our vision to end world hunger.”
