Last week, Rise Against Hunger partnered with Kraft Heinz and over 140 elected officials, Ambassadors, government and Embassy staff, industry partners and non-profit executives to work together across party lines and policy differences to package over 20,000 meals.

Member of Congress made a bipartisan showing at the event, showing that hunger issues are important no matter what your political affiliation. In a week where the Farm Bill was a hot topic and divisive issue on Capitol Hill, the Agriculture Committee Chairman Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS) and Ranking Member Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) teamed up to prepare meals and fight hunger.

The 20,000 meals packaged at the event will be sent to Mozambique. Carlos dos Santos, Ambassador for The Republic of Mozambique was on hand at the event as well as embassy staff members from other countries.

This event provides a great snapshot of how Rise Against Hunger’s advocacy work seeks to reach across party lines and bring everyone on Capitol Hill into the fight against hunger.

Right now, Rise Against Hunger is committed to getting bipartisan support on two bills: the Reach Every Mother and Child (“REACH”) Act (S. 1730, H.R. 4022) and the reauthorization of the Global Food Security Act (S. 1252, H.R. 1567). Read our blog posts about our support of the REACH Act and the Global Food Security Act and specific actions you can take to encourage Senators and Representatives of both parties to support these bills. We believe the everyone can join the fight to end hunger by 2030.
