Convoy of Hope Honduras Photo 2 Hector RoveloHector Rovelo*, age 10, lives in the extremely impoverished Cortes District of Honduras with his mother, aunt and cousin. The district began as a temporary community, built with makeshift housing from the government’s relief efforts following Hurricane Fifi in 1974. The community is in dire need of infrastructure and new housing, as well as increased access to healthcare and food. People in this community frequently suffer from malnutrition, diarrhea and respiratory and skin infections. While most have access to potable water, few have latrines or indoor plumbing.

Hector’s family lives in a dangerous area plagued by gang violence. When he enrolled in the Embajadores del Rey school in 2011, he weighed just 38 pounds.

Hector says, “If I could change something about my life, I would want to live in better conditions and be able to learn to read and write.”

Since Hector began receiving Stop Hunger Now meals, distributed to his school by Stop Hunger Now Impact Partner Convoy of Hope, he has gained weight steadily. Hector’s favorite activities are soccer and hide-and-seek. He says his dream is to one day become a police officer.

Iris Fugon, National Director of Convoy of Hope, said, “We have observed positive changes in the children. Most of the reports we get from leaders are about children being more awake and alert with obvious changes in health and nourishment.”

To help us continue to reach and feed children like Hector in countries all over the world, please consider making a donation to Stop Hunger Now today.
