International Youth Day, observed on August 12, celebrates the societal contributions of young people to create peace, sustainability, social justice and inclusion. Ending hunger will someday be the responsibility of today’s young adults, so investment in education and providing service opportunities is vital.

Rise Against Hunger Meal Packaging Events allow people of all ages, including children and young adults, to take a small, yet important, step to creating a hunger-free world by 2030. Young people at these events have the opportunity to educate themselves on hunger, poverty, and how they can play a part in creating a better world.

Recently, high school students from the Summer Residential Governor’s School for Medicine and Health Sciences, hosted by Virginia Commonwealth University, were inspired to write about the impact they experienced at their recent Meal Packaging Event with Rise Against Hunger’s Richmond location.

“I was so amazed at how we can take 26 students and take just two hours out of our lives and make such a big impact on the world.” — Aram

“Even though it may seem like an impossible goal to abolish all hunger, that shouldn’t stop us from doing what we can to get closer to this goal. Every little thing counts.” — Katherine

“While a difficult goal, if we act through global policy and charitable works such as this, we can reach the goal of ending world hunger by the year 2030.”— Joseph
