Plates Neighborhood Kitchen and Irregardless Cafe Team Up with Stop Hunger Now This Thanksgiving

Plates Neighborhood Kitchen and Irregardless Cafe are teaming up with Stop Hunger Now to make Thanksgiving hassle-free for people with a philanthropic spirit who just don’t want to cook on the holiday. This year’s “Plates for the World” promotion includes a gourmet Thanksgiving dinner available as take-out or served at two local restaurants: Plates Neighborhood Kitchen and Irregardless Cafe. A portion of the proceeds from the day’s sales will be donated to Stop Hunger Now to support their mission to end world hunger.

“Part of Plates Neighborhood Kitchen’s mission statement is to make the world a better place,” says Stephen Day, owner of Plates Neighborhood Kitchen. “The spirit of Thanksgiving is about the sharing of food from people who have abundance to those who have nothing. The idea of giving back to Stop Hunger Now seemed to pair so well with the Thanksgiving Holiday, so the idea of “Plates for the World” was born.”

Hunger is an epidemic that affects 795 million people throughout the world. Every night, one in nine people across the globe goes to bed hungry. Since it launched its meal-packing program in 2005, Stop Hunger Now has distributed over 200 million meals in 71 countries. In 2014 alone, it engaged nearly 275,000 volunteers who packaged 50.7 million meals at meal packaging events hosted in 16 countries.

“My wife and I had a dream that other restaurants would join in on Thanksgiving to keep that spirit of sharing food alive, says Day. “I approached Arthur Gordon at Irregardless Café because his values about giving back to people and the community are similar to ours and we are thrilled that Irregardless is joining Plates for the World this year. Our vision is to continue to find other like-minded restaurants that will participate next year. By banding together – we can make a difference in ending hunger.”

About Plates Neighborhood Kitchen
Locally-owned Plates Neighborhood Kitchen specializes in international dishes combined with regional southern flavors. Over the last 20 years, owners Stephen and Kate Day have lived and traveled around the world and are often surprised and inspired by the food they have eaten along the way. Having learned new flavors and techniques to add to the outstanding food of the American South, the one constant theme they realized is how different foods from different cultures can unite people, regardless of nationality. Meals provide the opportunity to meet new people, share stories, provide new experiences and make connections in the community.
