Community volunteers to package more than 10,000 meals to help end world hunger
(Leawood, KS — 11/25/16) – While many shoppers are fighting the crowds on Black Friday, volunteers from the Rotary Club of Leawood will be fighting world hunger. Stop Hunger Now and local volunteers are teaming up to package more than 10,000 meals for the world’s hungry on Friday, November 25. The event is open to the public and volunteers are encouraged to register here to volunteer.
The goal of the event is to raise $2,900 to fund over 10,000 meals to help those suffering from hunger around the world. The meals will be assembled on Black Friday, November 25, 2016 at Stop Hunger Now Kansas City’s warehouse located at 11888 W 91st Street Overland Park, Kansas 66214. Volunteers will be working in two shifts from 9am to 11am and 12pm to 2pm. This event is open to the public. Volunteers are asked to donate $40 each or $100 per family to fund the cost of the food.
Stop Hunger Now meal packaging events are a volunteer-based program that coordinates the streamlined packaging of highly nutritious dehydrated meals comprised of rice, soy, vegetables and 23 essential vitamins and minerals.
“My daughter participated in a Stop Hunger Now meal packaging event when she was in high school. At first she was reluctant, but after getting started working the high energy assembly line and celebrating our packaging milestones with the gong she was hooked,” said Brad Moore, Leawood Kansas Rotary Club. “She is now a college freshman and is making a special trip home to participate in the ‘Black Out Hunger’ event. I am proud that through the Stop Hunger Now meal packaging event she developed a passion for ending hunger and is dedicated to giving back in her life.”
Around the world, nearly 795 million people lack adequate food. Stop Hunger Now operates meal packaging locations in 20 cities throughout the U.S. and six international locations in South Africa, Malaysia, the Philippines, Italy, India and Peru. Last year, more than 353,500 volunteers from corporations, churches, schools and civic organizations packaged Stop Hunger Now meals.
